TORSION LEVEL SUSPENSION
OIL SEALS KITS – all new with a nitrile seal
We recommend that an Oil Seals Kit also be installed. This is because the rear axle bearings are almost never repacked at the 25,000 mile mark that Packard recommended. A brake drum puller is needed on the 1955 models but not the 1956 models. Also included in the oil seals kits, below, is a differential pinion seal, steering gear seal and front wheel seals. I recommend that the steering gear be drained and refilled with 90W rear axle lubricant. This Packard-recommended service was, again, almost never done. The original steering gear lubricant was a petroleum-based lubricant with ground rubber in suspension. The ground rubber gradually falls to the bottom and the liquid lube that remains is not adequate to prevent wear on the worm and roller gears. This is a simple job.
Torsion Level Suspension Bushing Repair Kit
For 1955 and 1956 Packard and Clipper cars equipped with Torsion Level Suspension…
This kit contains 8 new front support arm (A-arm) bushings, made in North America to OEM specifications by the original manufacturer. * 8 new rear torque arm bushings made from modern polyurethane (custom made for this application) that is superior in performance to the original rubber bushings. 10 new polyurethane Watts Linkage bushings (rear sway bar). Spacers for 1956 models. CD with instructions and Packard data and specifications, plus a printed copy of the installation instructions. This kit will help restore your Torsion-Level Packard or Clipper to as-when-new riding and handling qualities, which have faded over the years to just a nice riding car. It will also restore your cars proper riding height. Over the years the rear (original) rubber bushings compress and the car’s riding height decreases from one to three inches.
* these bushings are available from many sources and most are made overseas and ARE NOT made to OEM (original equipment manufacturer) standard.
